Making Waves

Color Me Stars and Stripes Blue

Colored hulls have become a popular request for Viking owners looking to add truly unique and personal touches, as this Viking 66 Enclosed Bridge Convertible in Stars and Stripes Blue so aptly demonstrates. But a peek inside reveals that the beauty goes beyond skin deep.

Picture yourself relaxing after a perfect day on the water in the tastefully appointed salon.

In addition to a flying bridge ladder on the mezzanine deck in the 174 square-foot cockpit, the interior staircase provides all weather access to the enclosed bridge.

The master stateroom is spacious with attention-to-detail everywhere you look, including twin maple-lined hanging lockers, a credenza, the en suite head and teak joinery throughout.

Guests fare nicely in three additional staterooms, like the forward cabin (left) with a walk-around queen berth, and a private crew stateroom (right) with access from the engine room. See this enticing Viking 66 Enclosed Bridge Convertible, one of 15 new models on display at the 2014 Fort Lauderdale Boat Show at the Bahia Mar Yachting Center, October 30-November 3, 2014.

Building A Better Plant

Building a better plant at Viking yachts

Viking‘s ongoing improvements to enclose and enjoin our manufacturing buildings is a step closer to reality with the raising of six new 10 ton bridge cranes, each one equipped with a pair of remotely controlled five ton hoists.

Because the hoists also can operate independently, it will now be possible to move large molds and modular components both horizontally and longitudinally throughout the building, picking up and dropping off wherever needed to facilitate our build process. This will significantly enhance our overall efficiencies throughout the plant, remaining ever true to Viking co-founder Bill Healey’s mission to build a better boat every day.

The New Viking 75 MY

Viking Yachts‘ return to the motor yacht market became another day closer to reality last week when the new 75 Motor Yacht left the building for its proverbial Travelift ride to the launch well.

Once in the water, Viking‘s Joe Snodgrass took bow and stern waterline measurements to mark for freeboard heights, while the dip in the basin helped establish the location for the waterline striping.

While the interior and exterior appointments of the yacht are still being finalized, there is no mistaking the beautiful lines of the Viking 75 Motor Yacht, which will make its world premiere at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, October 30 – November 3, 2014. Viking 52 Profile

Experience is the best teacher and nowhere is this more evident than in the development of a boat’s helm. Our new Viking 52 Sport Tower model presents a good example of this critical attention to detail.  She’s set to premiere next month at our 50th Anniversary Gala Celebration and VIP sea trial day, September 9-10, 2014 at the Golden Nugget Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Viking 52 Command Deck

Providing good visibility for the operator is paramount, and this includes the ability to monitor the navigation and fishing electronics. As the rendering shows in this case, our subsidiary Atlantic Marine Electronicsequipped the helm with three 15-inch screens affording the operator with an unobstructed view of the sounder, plotter and radar.  Engine instrumentation is visible on centerline. The raised pod, which houses the electronic equipment is sealed for all weather performance. Another of our subsidiaries, Palm Beach Towers, designed and built the custom tuna tower with a full set of controls and additional electronics for seamless performance when operating the boat from the upper location.

Viking‘s prowess at building a model within a model is a mainstay in our efficacy to regularly introduce new members into the Viking family as our popular 42 series so readily demonstrates. The 42 hull is the genesis for the42 Convertible, the 42 Open, the 42 Sport Tower, and the 42 Sport Coupe. Each is powered with fuel efficient Cummins QSC 600 mhp diesels matched to the Zeus pod-drive propulsion system with joy stick controls for rapid response and amazing maneuverability.

Viking 42

There’s no mistaking the modern yet classic style cues of the 42 Convertible, which showcase Viking’s attention to detail flowing from bow to stern. Equally impressive, the inviting salon is reminiscent of its larger siblings.

42 Open

The 42 Open expresses your passion for offshore fishing and cruising with delightful overnight accommodations in its two-stateroom layout with a full galley and salon.

A three-sided fiberglass deckhouse complements your style aboard the 42 Sport Coupe while upping the convenience factor. Easily customized, you can quickly add personal touches for all your boating needs.

Equipped with a custom tuna tower and overhead rod lockers designed by our subsidiary Palm Beach Towers, the 42 Sport Tower broadens your horizons. Go ahead and take the wheel.

Breaking News from Viking Yachts

Triple Twice!                                                                  Like us on Facebook Follow us on Twitter

Frank Rodriguez, and his outstanding crew on his Viking 70 Enclosed Bridge Fa La Me, made history this month when he won the Bermuda Triple Crown for the second time! Fa La Me is the first boat to ever win this prestigious accomplishment twice. Comprised of a series of three major Bermuda-based billfish tournaments, the points earned at each event follow the boat, crew and anglers.  Fishing for blue marlin, as that is where the big points are, was a ponderous task for the team.

The Bermuda Big Game Classic, the first in the series, was a slow start with a lone white marlin release. Things picked up during the second event, the Bermuda Billfish Blast with four white marlin.  After 14 days, the frustrated crew was still looking for the elusive blue marlin bite.  Then it happened!

On the first day of the Sea Horse Anglers Club Billfish Tournament, Frank hooked up with a blue and 18 minutes later the team was back in the saddle. Four blue marlin and a wahoo followed to win not just the Sea Horse event but take the title of the Bermuda Triple Crown Championship. Frank also took Top Angler in the Sea Horse Leg. Congratulations Frank, captain Rob Moore, mates Taylor and Tyler Beckford and anglers Dave Berard and Jeffrey De Silva. We’re looking forward to a triple Triple next year!

Congratulations are also in order to Lainey Jones fishing on her Viking 66 Mama Who. Lainey was Second Place Lady Angler in the Billfish Blast leg of the series.

Bragging Rights

Viking Ocean

A fleet of 40 boats, half Viking half Ocean yachts, converged on the Canyon Club Marina for the annual Viking Ocean Showdown.  Amidst dinner, dancing and a lively pool party complete with grilled steaks and tropical drinks the anglers did find some time to fish on Thursday and Saturday.

When lines were called at the end of the final day, Viking Yachts had the edge over Ocean Yachts winning the coveted Grand Champion trophy. Captain Ryan Higgins claimed Most Points Tuna on the Viking 70 while Team Viking member Beth Cesarini nabbed the Heaviest Tuna with a 68 pounder while fishing on Gypsea.  Kaela Colyar, aboard the Viking 60 Gigabyte II,  was the Top Junior Angler. The release only billfish tournament pits these two New Jersey boat manufacturers against each other in a friendly rivalry for bragging rights. Tournament Director Bob Glover said, “It’s a fun get together between these two boat builders. Everybody is friends, so it’s a one of a kind, unique situation.”

Viking 92 Update

Palm Beach Towers Rises to the Occasion                 Like us on FacebookFollow us on Twitter

Viking 92

While the Viking 92 Enclosed Bridge Convertible is the largest Viking yacht built so far in our 50 year history and among the many highlights of our continuing 50th anniversary festivities, still another milestone was reached on Friday, when our subsidiary, Palm Beach Towers, set the yacht’s custom tuna tower in place.

Once the crane had the tower airborne, it was maneuvered over the enclosed bridge roof, a painstaking process requiring multiple steps and numerous hands, while carefully protecting the yacht and the tower.

Getting closer inch by inch, side by side, the moment of truth arrives with another perfect fit.

Secured with a handful of strategic fasteners and several upright stands, the tuna tower, which extends nearly 40 feet from the waterline to the top of the fiberglass sun shade roof, is sufficiently stable so the yacht can be removed from the water, and the rest of the tower work completed on land.
