Over the past 48 years, the Viking Yacht Company has introduced numerous ground breaking designs that have paved the waterfront with excellence in design and performance.
Our newest model, the 55 Convertible premieres this summer and will be a focal point for Viking during the upcoming boat shows. Like many new Vikings, the new 55 is a blue-water overachiever, which says a lot about any new model. But in this case, it means even more because of the big boat shoes it has been designed to fill and the fact that several 55s have already been spoken for in what is arguably a difficult economy.
In 1996, Viking introduced its first 55 Convertible at the Ft. Lauderdale Boat Show. This model broke new ground with style and out gunned the competition not only with its performance but with its movie star popularity that trampled the competition in sales. Over the next five years, Viking would build over 150 55 Convertibles. No other boat by any manufacturer in this size range would even come close.
50th Annual Buccaneer Cup Sailfish Release Tournament 10th Annual Florida Fish for Life Billfish Tournament Palm Beach, Florida ~ January 23-26, 2013
Twenty three boats slugged it out over three days of fun in the sun during the Palm Beach Double Shot. This unique event is comprised of two tournaments; the Buccaneer Cup and the Florida Fish for Life. This year the tournament quickly became a duel between top dead bait trollers and top live bait fliers. The scoreboard bounced around on Day One with the Viking 61 De-Bait-Able releasing 10 sails and the Viking 55 releasing eight. On Day Two, the Viking 52 Miss Annie picked up eight fish to add to the three they already had and the Viking 70 Enclosed Bridge Fa La Me posted seven. This ended the Fish for Life with the Viking 55 taking first place with a total of 12 releases and angler Patrick Healey cinching Third Place Angler. Fa La Me earned a Third Place finish with 10 releases. Other winners in the Fish for Life included the Viking 56 Princess Lily with a 29 pound kingfish to take Largest Fish of the tournament, De-Bait-Able claiming the first sailfish while Miss Annie took the last sail and the Viking Yacht Company was awarded the Caterpillar Cup Manufacturer’s Award.
Day Three was all about the Buccaneer Cup with the field heading out for a tough day. When lines out was called, Fa La Me took the top spot with 15 releases, Most Points Day Two and Rob Moore was the Top Captain. The Viking 55 claimed Second Place with 13 sails and Most Points Day One with eight releases. Judge, a Viking 64, claimed Most Points Day Three.
Congratulations to Dawn Samuels for earning the 2012 Tracy Schneider Memorial Trophy at the West Palm Beach Fishing Club’s Annual Awards Dinner. Fishing on the Viking 56 Princess Lily, Dawn released 57 sailfish on live bait over the course of the year. This award is presented annually to the member of the WPBFC who scores the highest number of sailfish release points in Florida waters. An interesting note, Dawn’s husband Mike Samuels received this prestigious award last year with 42 releases. Mike’s dad, John Samuels, released 47 sails to receive the honor in 2009. Quite a fishing family!
Founded in 1934, the WPBFC is among the oldest and most successful sport fishing clubs anywhere. Current membership is nearly 1,400 and is quite diverse including varied levels of angling experience from novice anglers to seasoned tournament pros and guides. The weather forecast for the 17th Annual Viking VIP Preview, February 1-2, 2013 is looking good with plenty of sunshine, temperatures in the mid 70s and a nice onshore breeze. Add to this tropical weather a fleet of 15 new Vikings from 42 to 82 feet, including new launches like the Viking 55 and Viking 62 Convertibles, 50 vendors offering select accessories and marine services, top Viking management and the best dealer network in the world, and ladies and gentlemen we are ready for the big show to begin!
However, for all those planning to attend, we must break for a commercial from the road department of beautiful Riviera Beach, Florida, pertaining to the streets around the Viking Yacht Service Center. For several months US 1 has been enduring a rebuilding process from Blue Heron Blvd. south to the Service Center, which includes various detours and a plethora of temporary signage. With that in mind here are specific directions, which will help make your arrival easy.
Take the 45th Street exit off I-95 and head east toward US 1. At US 1, turn left and go north over the Port Bridge and turn right on East 15th Street. At the stop sign, make a left and the Service Center will be one block up on your right. If you choose to come south on US 1, make a left turn on to East 13th Street (at the traffic light), then a left at the stop sign and continue to the Service Center on your right. We apologize for the inconvenience, but suggest you allow a few minutes of extra travel time to negotiate the route.
We hope you will join in and celebrate with the Viking family at this year’s extravaganza. We look forward to seeing you and showcasing the world’s finest luxury convertible yachts. If you have not yet made your sea trial reservations, please contact your Viking dealer immediately to finalize arrangements.
A group from the North Carolina and Virginia offices of Bluewater Yacht Sales recently visited the Viking factory to take an extended tour of the facilities and participate in a day long workshop to better serve their clients with the Viking brand. A long time Viking dealer, the Bluewater organization covers the Mid-Atlantic waterfront with sales offices, service yards and marinas from Maryland to North Carolina.
The 7th Annual Grand Slam Jupiter Billfish Tournament held in Jupiter, Florida was another great success. Thirty boats competed in this years’ tournament with a total of 214 sailfish releases in less than perfect conditions. “For the first time in the tournament’s history, we saw the temperatures in the 80’s,” said tournament director Jim McGrath. “The weather was unusually warm and it felt like a summer day on the first day of the tournament.”
The fishing team led by captain Randy Yates on Barry Weshnak’s Viking 52 Miss Annie landed on top with a two-day total of 23 releases. This is the second first place win for Miss Annie. Captain Randy took home top captain along with Miss Annie‘s Tyler Morris as top mate. Special thanks to Leonard Bryant Photography for this excellent crew photo.
